Vehicle of Interest In Nighttime Auto Burglaries

By Ken, September 29, 2009 10:05 am

San Carlos Police Department Sgt. Mark Robbins has just alerted us to be on the lookout for a vehicle that may be involved in a series of nighttime auto burglaries in the White Oaks area. Attached is a photograph of a similar vehicle, although this is not the exact car.

The vehicle is described as a 2000 red Chevrolet Impala. The driver is a Hispanic male in his mid-20s. This same vehicle was observed in the White Oaks area back in July, when the neighborhood was experiencing both home and auto burglaries.

If you see a vehicle matching this description, please call the police department immediately! Do NOT approach the vehicle or the driver.

As always, the police department reminds residents to remove valuables from their vehicles and lock their car doors. Sgt. Robbins notes that some of these burglars are not deterred by Neighborhood Watches and are known to commit brazen acts in the middle of the day.

How to Get Street Lamps Fixed or Installed

One of the things that can help deter nighttime vandalism, car break-ins and thefts is a well-lit street, with plenty of overhead street lamps. Anyone who takes walks or jogs at night can appreciate the greater sense of security when you can actually see your way.

The pattern of street lamps in White Oaks is haphazard. Some streets, generally ones considered to be major thoroughfares such as Eaton, St. Francis Way and Cedar, seem to have consistent overhead lighting. Others, especially side streets, are as dark as a coal mine. Some, such as Kelton, are only half-lit with lamps, even though there are plenty of utility poles to support lighting on the remainder of the street.

Can something be done about this?

Well, maybe.
